My boner for the Paizo business model just won’t quit.

So checking out when the anniversary edition of Rise of The Runelords will be available (July) I managed to see all of the stuff that Paizo has released to support that one campaign. Admittedly, it is their first campaign, so it has had time to accumulate all the things they could possibly make for it, but still…

Considering that the game rules and the ROTRL player guides are free, and the campaign itself cheap as chips, they’ve done a great job of providing us with the product line equivalent of “How awesome would you like it to be?”

Here is the ROTRL specific product line:

So they've got the shitty paintjob rubbery miniatures (That Karzoug Statue one is pretty great mind you)

The item deck, full of Dog Choppers, Ogre Hooks, Sihedron stuff etc.

The map folio, for christ's sake

A collection of paper pawns, which honestly, I'd rather have than metal or rubber minis. That seems like a great use of $16.

A themed dice set so ornate I'd want to punch anyone who actually used them.

A face deck - which isn't THAT much use in this campaign, but really useful in future campaigns when NPCs provide bonuses based on how much they like/hate you.

And the high quality, startlingly true to the illustrations, Reaper Miniatures.

And that’s just the campaign specific stuff.

That’s kind of bonkers.

  1. Is the anniversary edition the same as the hardcover edition? I swear I saw that at Tower but perhaps I’m crazy.
