The party, having chased Merth back into the megadungeon, found themselves with time for a rare moment of reflection. Ishpemo, who had been put into a deep magical sleep (the kind that can only be broken by either time or a smooch from the greasy old wizard himself) because he was overcome with terror at the prospect of returning to the dungeons, was no longer there to prod them along. And naturally, the first thing that enters the mind of any adventurer is “where’s the loot?” Especially when you were already robbed blind… [checks notes] …10 sessions ago.
So off the party went, back to the constabulary, only to of course encounter more guards. This was a chance for Sean to play Nick in Jim’s absence, which meant watching the excitement a player has the first time they get to take the DCC magic system for a drive. Rope Work once again proved surprisingly effective, as well as Sleep, which may be one of the most powerful spells in DCC based on our game play.
After dispatching the guards, the party proceeded to find their lost goods. Well, they’re most common goods. All magical items were still in the depths of the dungeon. But it’s the best kitted out the party has been this whole adventure, so that’s at least a little progress.
Merth’s room did have an unexpected surprise for poor þordis. Merth had a needle trap that she failed to disarm, and after a failed fort save lost 4 strength permanently. That means, according to the rules that she isn’t strong enough to carry both a weapon and a shield. Yeesh. More loot was found, and party, after noting that the villagers were perhaps aware of the previous night’s massacres, made haste back the tower and their new entrance to the dungeon. And as day dawned, the party went back into the depths below.
The night ended after encountering a lone red-haired man. The fight began with a couple of sound hits on the stout fellow. Ollem, as his friends call him, demonstrated why he’s also called “Hairy Arms” by transforming into some kind of half-man/half-bear (all blacksmith).
Next session begins the way we like it- right in the middle of action.
