Extra Attack

Base Attack Bonus (BAB): Each creature has a base attack bonus and it represents its skill in combat. As a character gains levels or Hit Dice, his base attack bonus improves. When a creature’s base attack bonus reaches +6, +11, or +16, he receives an additional attack in combat when he takes a full-attack action (which is one type of full-round action—see Combat).

The above text is from Common Terms under the Getting Started section of the Core Rule book. It would appear than Ben was correct about the extra attack at a BAB of +6.

  1. Thanks, Rolland.

The root of this confusion is that I’m not reading the basic rules parts of the books. I always get confused because I’m looking at the class advancement tables, and they’re not complete and some of them have different columns.

  2. Yeah, I thought that was how it worked. Once you guys said differently though you put the seed of doubt in my brain.

  3. Yeah, I looked this up after the game, because it didn’t seem right that multiclassing would hobble you like that.

I have not had time to look up how this effects Flurry of Blows, although, I did note that you can flurry with monk weapons, which is rad. I think Baaz always used his hands…

  4. Okay so my reading of this is:

    Monk 6/Cleric 3 has a regular BAB of +6,+1

Flurry of Blows for the same character is (Monk Level + Other BAB sources – reduced penalty from Two Weapon Fighting) i.e. (6+2-2) so +6,+6,+1.

Why would you ever NOT Flurry after 5th level?

    • Now that this makes more sense I will NEVER AGAIN NOT Flurry.
